Important Notice Regarding
Travel through the United States!!
There have been recent changes for students without a visa who wish
to travel through the United States to come to Canada. It is important
to check with the airline regarding travel through the United States
and the possibility of needing a US visa before making travel plans.
It is recommended that you avoid travel through the United States on
your way to Canada. Please visit these two sites in order to find further
information on this new development.

E.I.C. Students ravished by World's Largest
Dinosaur
This
month the students at E.I.C. in Calgary are making a trek to the world
famous Royal Tyrrell of Paleontology in the city of Drumheller. This
museum holds the world's largest collection of Dinosaur remains, and
we are excited to be taking our students to this world class venue.
We plan to spend a few hours in the museum, and then use our afternoon
for exploring the famous Badlands surrounding the city, the site of
the biggest dinosaur excavation ever. It will definitely promise to
be a fun and adventurous day.
This summer at E.I.C. has been a great one, as
our students have really enjoyed the July and August weather. We have
spent our time at various sporting and tourist events around the city,
as well as taking in some of the wonderful cultural festivals that come
to Calgary, such as the Calgary Folk Fest, Carifest, and the Sun and
Salsa Festival. Our events keep rolling in September, with a trip planned
to the spectacular Waterton National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Come join us! (www.educere.ca)
As a special event, CanadaWide is also proud to
offer students a $200.00 bursary for registering at Educere through
the Central Registry at www.canadawide-english.com.

Whistler Trip Included
On
one of our fabulous free Friday activities this month, over 150 students
went off to Whistler for sun filled day in the mountains. Many students
chose to go up the gondola to enjoy the view from the top of the mountain.
Vancouver and Whistler will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics so it
was a great chance for students to see the actual resort. For some students
from South America and Asia it was the first time to see snow. Many
students expressed that they wanted to see snow falling in winter and
we hope that they will come and visit us again in winter or during the
2010 Olympics. This August we have an excellent line-up for our free
Friday activities. Some of the highlights include: Whistler day trip,
the Vancouver Aquarium and Stanley Park, canoeing, Big Bar-b-Q graduation,
African drumming lesson, tennis lessons, Greek lunch, Harbour Centre
Lookout tour, Latin American music class and salsa lesson, pub night
and a lunch and hike at the Director's house. Of course for those students
who want to study there will be academic classes held at the school
including: adjectives, pronunciation, TOEIC/TOFEL practice class, prepositions,
gerund/infinitive and a listening class. http://www.csli.com/brochfree.htm
New Listening and Pronunciation Class
New this month, CSLI added this popular class
to our list of selective classes. This course is designed to focus on
two key elements of language acquisition. This comprehensive overview
of the English sound system combined with specific listening activities
that will aid in the development of clear speech and discrete
listening skills, therefore improving overall communication skills.
The pronunciation component of the course will follow an 8-week rotating
cycle.

Village English
- Toronto, Ontario
A
popular trip recently for students was to the African Lion Safari, where
the students took a Safari bus tour and saw many animals up close. They
also watched the parrot paradise show, the elephant show and experienced
the birds of prey flying demonstration. The night before was spent at
a staff member's house where the students socialized, watched movies,
had dinner and went shopping. The day after the trip, there was a test
in school about the movie and the Safari in which students were able
to test their listening comprehension skills; the test was optional
but those who chose to answer the questions received a surprise present!
The next trip will be to Niagara Falls, where the students will ride
on the Maid of the Mist and the Spanish Aero Car, and also have some
free time to visit the large variety of museums and shops in the area.
The big event of the month takes place on August 22, the International
Student Day Festival, where student from different schools in the Toronto
area will get together from 2PM-10PM and participate in different sporting
events, games, contests, karaoke, all the while enjoying a nice variety
of music and entertainment from all over the world.

The
Dog Days of Summer ...
August was certainly hot and sticky enough for POINT3's students this
year. All the more reason for us to go kayaking! Our students spent
a fun afternoon on (and in!) the water, learning how to kayak. There
is nothing better to escape the heat than taking a dip!
However, you can't come to Montréal without visiting
the jewel in the heart of the city: Mount Royal Park. Designed by the
same architect who created Central Park in New York City (Frederick
Law Olmstead), Mount Royal is much loved by visitors to Montréal and
by the people who live here. After spending a morning exploring the
many trails, our students enjoyed a quiet picnic in the shade, after
which they played a quick game of soccer. What could be more relaxing?
In
September, it's back to school for everyone, including our students!
Many will be preparing for the TOEFL test that will be held on September
19th, or participating in our special Listening Skills class, which
will help students learn how to listen interactively and selectively.
But at POINT3, we're not just all work and no play. September is also
a great month for cultural activities, from the World Film Festival,
to the Chinese Lantern display at the Botanical Gardens. You can find
a piece of every corner of the world in our beautiful city.
For the month of September, we are continuing
our special offer of a free trip to Ottawa or Québec City for every
student who registers through CanadaWide English Network for 4 weeks
or more. Just type "Canadawide trip" in the comments section when registering.
For more information on POINT3 Language Center or details about our
special offer, just email us at info@point-3.com.
We hope to see you soon!
