Canadian as a Second Language Institute - Vancouver
Olympics in Vancouver 2010!
It was a nail-biter, but as 18,000 people gathered at GM Place (including CSLI students) to hear who would be given the right to hold the 2010 Winter Olympics, nerves were flying. It came down to a second vote between Pyeongchang in Korea and Vancouver. In one of the closest contests, Vancouver came out as the winner. We are all very excited, as CSLI is one block from the opening ceremonies venue and we will be taking reservations now for that time. The whole school will be heading down to the congratulations party at Plaza of Nations this weekend. See you again in 2010!

Now that the weather is hot and we are in peak season, we have organized many great free activities for July. They include Horseback Riding, Golfing, Bowen Island Tour, Whistler Trip, Molson Indy Day, Picnic Lunch, Rollerblading around the seawall, Dim Sum lunch, Beach Volleyball, and the Folk Music Festival (for more details about our great activities, check out http://www.csli.com/brochfree.htm). For those more serious students, we have: TOEFL and TOEIC practice tests, Pronunciation lessons, Study Skills class, Adjectives class, and many more. We have new class choices during the week also, with Cambridge First Certificate and Pronunciation/listening class starting in July. For our latest news and reports:

Educere International College - Calgary
E.I.C. and the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth
In has been a busy 10 days around Calgary as the Annual Calgary Exhibition and Stampede has rolled through our beautiful city again. This year, the 91st year of the Stampede, was another success for the city, as over 1.1 million visitors checked through the gates. The weather was perfect, and the city was alive with energy, which made for a great week of Rodeo entertainment for our students.

At the Educere International College (www.educere.ca), we really enjoy the Stampede festivities that allow us to show the energy of Calgary to our students from around the globe. Starting with the annual Parade, a wonderful display of color and diversity, on the opening morning of the Stampede, our staff and students always participate in the spirit of the festival. Some highlights this year were our annual E.I.C. Stampede breakfast, and our trip to the Stampede Rodeo. (See bull-busting Japanese student Reo Tanaka in the picture above)

While the Stampede has finished for another year, our month of Cowboy activities has not, as we take a group of students to the famous Bar-U Ranch this week. This beautiful Canadian Ranch is an amazing sight, nestled on a 367-acre spread that sprawls across the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Horseback riding, Wagon rides, lassoing lessons, and down home cooking are all on the menu. Here we will sample all that the ranching lifestyle has to offer, and is sure to be a fun filled day spent in the beauty of the Alberta foothills.

Point3 Language Center - Montreal
Ahh… Montréal in the summertime.
Our lucky students this summer are enjoying all that Montréal has to offer, from the great sounds of the world-famous International Jazz Festival, to our just-as-famous POINT3 Summer Barbecue. There is also the Festival des Nuits d'Afrique (African music and dance), the Just for Laughs comedy festival, the Montréal Dragon Boat competition, and the biggest street sale in all of Canada. And of course, Montréal in the summer means long, leisurely evenings on a terrace, to eat and drink with friends.

Summer's not over yet, though. There are lots of things coming up in August. The month kicks off with the last shows of the annual Francofolies festival, a celebration of music in French. Then there's the Fantasia film festival, showing a mix of fantasy, science fiction, and classic martial arts movies. To finish off the month, there is the prestigious Montréal International Film Festival, showcasing long and short films from around the world. Don't think, however, that there's nothing to do but see movies! There is still a lot to do outdoors, from rollerblading at the Old Port of Montréal, to hiking in Mount Royal Park in the heart of the city.

One must not forget, though, that Montréal is only a few hours away from two of the most beautiful cities in North America, Ottawa and Québec City. As a special to all students who register for the month of August for 4 weeks or more, we will include a trip to Ottawa or Québec City, free! Just type "Canadawide Trip" in the comments section when registering. For more information on POINT3 Language Center or details about our special offer, just email us at info@point-3.com. We hope to see you soon!

Interlangues Language Center -Ottawa, Ontario
Babies, Babies, Babies
The stork has been busy making deliveries at Interlangues this summer. Two of our teachers have already had girls and one will be leaving soon on her maternity leave to await the arrival of yet another girl! Good luck to all the new mommies!

Culture
Ottawa is full of culture and this month is no different. We have had Canada Day, Bluesfest and the Hope Volleyball Tournament. To get into to the spirit of Hope we took our students to Mooney's Bay to practice some beach volleyball. These are wonderful opportunities for our students to experience Canadian culture outside the classroom.

New & Returning Students
Summer is now in full swing with more and more students every week. The exciting thing this month has been the arrival of five former students. These students studied with us in the winter and are now back for more of the Interlangues experience. We're glad to have you back guys!

Canadian College of Business and Language - Victoria
Pamela Anderson & Wayne Gretzky Together??
Teen Study Tour Program students at Canadian College from Spain, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Thailand, and Korea were treated to a surprise when their teachers sent them out last week to take photos. The students are divided into groups and given a camera, then sent out to take photos as part of an assignment. They entered the Empress Hotel to take pictures of the grand hotel when they came upon Pamela Anderson with Kid Rock and Wayne Gretzky, one of the world's best hockey players. They were kind enough to pose for photos taken by the students. One of our male Spanish students asked Pamela to stand sideways for a profile shot! Wow!! More than 118 famous celebrities were in Victoria for a charity golf event.

Teen Study Tour Program for August
Registration in our teen programs this summer has been so good that we are adding another classroom to the inventory. Therefore, we still have a few seats remaining for the weeks of August 11th, 18th, and 25th for 1, 2, or 3-week participation. For more info, click www.cdncollege.bc.ca/stour2.htm
