Canadian College of Business and Language
- Victoria, BC
Basketball allstars
Canadian
College High School Preparation students formed a team this month to
participate in a special tournament of teams from Victoria High Schools.
The Canadian College Team was very successful and their skill placed
them on the podium in third position amongst over twenty-seven teams.
A huge achievement since they had no time to practice due to the huge
amount of homework and studies they have every day. These students will
finish their program August 20th and then successfully enter prestigious
Canadian High Schools were they can play more basketball.

POINT3 Language
Centre - Montreal, Quebec
Summer in Montreal is off to a great
start!
The International Jazz Festival was incredible and many of our students
went out to see the free shows almost every night! We danced amid the
crushing crowds to Motown hits of the 60's and 70's, performed by the
Funk Brothers, and were even treated to a special appearance by the
Four Tops! The festival came to a close with a spectacular event that
could only be produced by our very own Cirque du Soleil; you had to
see it to believe it! Some of our students were on-site to get a good
view at 3 o'clock in the afternoon - and the show only started at 9
pm!
A POINT3 Wedding!
When Izumi came to Montreal to study English last September, and Dawei
came here to learn French last November, marriage was not on their list
of things to do in Montreal! But just last month they tied the knot
right in Old Montreal, with friends from POINT3 in attendance! The happy
couple has moved to Japan, where they will celebrate once again. We
knew Montreal was a romantic city, but here is the proof! Who knows
what you'll find if you come to study at POINT3, in Montreal!

Summer
is here, and the school is abuzz with activity and excitement! Our Children
and Teen programs opened this month and we have welcomed new students,
children, teen and adults, from all over the world, including Canada.
We have students from France, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Mexico,
Brazil, Turkey, Ivory Coast, Colombia, Korea, and even Quebec. These
programs offer more activities than Intensive English, so we have had
many activities so far this month: the Museum of Nature, Changing the
Guard on Parliament Hill, which you can see in the picture, a tour of
Rideau Hall's beautiful grounds, and of course…Canada Day! Our
students had the chance to witness Canada Day in the Nation's Capital.
About 300 000 people flocked downtown to see concerts, watch other people,
and the fireworks! This year was Canada's 137th birthday. Tune in next
month to see how our excursions went: a trip to Toronto for the weekend
and to Upper Canada Village for the day on Friday.
We will also be offering another administration of the TOEIC® test
this month, as this has proven quite popular with our students. We wish
everyone writing this test the best of luck! interlangues.english@on.aibn.com

Educere International
College - Calgary, Alberta
The
students enjoyed participating in several
outdoor activities this month. We had a soccer tournament at Riley Park
in the beginning of June. We were lucky to have Ivan, our professional
soccer player, here from Mexico to show us a few tricks. The students
participated in the EIC activity game day in mid-June. We had 3 games
area set up, a Starcraft tournament in the computer lab, a Playstation
2 center and other fun games put on by our ESL teachers. There were
snacks and great prizes. Our grand prize was a 4 week scholarship for
our new Business English Lite. We had great weather for our picnic at
Prince's Island Park, and for our outing to Fort Calgary Historical
Park. We are happy to have students from the following countries this
July: China, Congo, France, Japan, Korea, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia,
Spain, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

Study
Abroad Canada - Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Trips! Trips! Trips!
In
early July a small
group of students, and school director Patrick Davis made a visit to
Boston while camping for two days in Maine. Boston was full of life,
and most of the short visit was spent at the Quincy Market. At the campground,
the stars were spectacular as the group enjoyed a fresh corn and lobster
by the evening campfire. In July and August two more school camping
trips are schedule, one for Prince Edward Island and another for Nova
Scotia. If you are interested in participating, join Study Abroad Canada
in Charlottetown.
The September Anne of Green Gables study tour (esl and activity program)
still has room in it. If you are interested in learning about Anne and
visiting famous Anne sites, this is the program for you. Contact us
for more information, including the program schedule.

Second Language Institute - Vancouver, British Columbia
Lunch is Served!
As
one of our free Friday Activities,
students hiked in West Vancouver to the home of Directors Lori-Ann and
Lawrence Keenan. Over 100 students were rewarded for the exercise with
drinks and a huge buffet of sumptuous food. Roasting marshmallows, water
fights, and dancing to "YMCA" were some of the memorable activities
at this event. Our quasi-annual 'Harry Potter premiere' took place as
students joined CSLI Resident Wizard Mark in a special class before
seeing the new movie on opening day. Another event, of course, was our
big grad party. This month we had a BBQ lunch and dance party on the
beach, and then headed to a nightclub to dance the night away. Congrats
to Joanna Nocon from Germany, who was our Student of the Month. July
activities include Bowen Island trip, Whistler, Tennis Lessons, Getting
a Makeover, Beer Tasting, Spelling Bee
Contest - students did a great job in the contest, which focused
on spelling and articulation skills. Hosted by the extraordinary MC
Mike, the competition was tough as so many students had prepared so
well! Congratulations to our winner, Yuko Saijo from Japan, who is in
the high Intermediate level and nevertheless beat out the advanced students!
