Canadian as Second Language Institute - Vancouver, British Colombia
Can you "Pronounce" Idioms?
Big congratulations to all CSLI students who participated in the Idioms contest in November. Many students studied very hard and the contest winners were: Wolfgang from Germany and Ana from Brazil, who each received a gift basket for their efforts. The contest in December was the Pronunciation contest. All students worked very hard this month perfecting their pronunciation. The winner of the clearest pronunciation was Yumiko from Japan, who won a basket of Christmas goodies!

Christmas Time at CSLI?
After the busy fall season, we enjoyed spending time together at the annual Christmas party. A full turkey lunch with all the trimmings was served to the students. Students also enjoyed a surprise visit from Santa Claus, who handed out gifts. Students sang Christmas carols and performed a special Christmas play that they had been rehearsing all month. The Student of the Month for December was Sung Gu Kang from Korea, and our biggest award of the year, the Ambassador of the Year award, was presented to Su Sun (Susy) Kim from Korea who volunteered countless hours at CSLI this year. Way to go Susy! http://www.csli.com/awards.htm

POINT3 Language Center - Montreal, Quebec
HAPPY NEW YEAR & BONNE ANNÉE, from POINT3 Language Center! We hope that the year 2004 will bring health and happiness to you all. Who knows, it may even bring you to see us at POINT3 in beautiful Montreal!
The start of December signals Christmas, and we got right into the spirit of the season, by putting up our Christmas tree and decorations. The school looked great for our Christmas party, where everyone had a wonderful time…

"3-STAR STUDENTS"
We've had so many wonderful students this year at POINT3, but there were a few who not only made tremendous progress learning English or French, they also participated in almost all the activities organized outside of classtime. A 3-star student does well in class, is always present, and encourages other students to do the same with their energy and positive attitude.

We at POINT3, had the privilege to encounter three such students this fall: Sarah and Paul, who were here from England to study French, and Anouk, who came to Montreal from Liechtenstein to study English.

Winter is well under way with tons of snow! Montreal has its "Fête des Neiges", and don't forget about the Quebec Winter Carnival; POINT3 will be visiting the provincial capital in February!

Don't forget about our super specials, still on until February; see what they are at: www.point-3.com.

Interlangues Language Center - Ottawa, Ontario
The holidays are over and it is back to work and classes for us here at Interlangues. The holidays were pleasant as the weather cooperated and we had beautiful spring-like days. It was a good opportunity for our students to visit places they might not have had a chance to otherwise, like provincial parks, other Canadian cities or even just an opportunity to explore Ottawa.

The holidays were also a good chance for our students to experience the many different celebrations that occur around this time of year. New Year's Eve was celebrated fairly quietly, but there were a good number of parties to choose from, the best of course being the traditional New Year's bash on Parliament Hill with fireworks. We were very happy to welcome back old faces as well as the new students that have arrived. This first week back we have asked our students to talk about their New Year's resolutions, whether they have them in their countries and what they would resolve to do (or not do!) in the coming year.

We are currently gearing up for our winter activities. The arrival of snow and colder weather in Ottawa means one thing: skating on the world's longest skating rink! We eagerly await the opening of the Rideau Canal to go on our annual skating activity.

KIOSK International - Toronto, Ontario
Winter has arrived in Toronto! Last Wednesday, KIOSK's activity leader Jeff went skating with the students at Toronto's City Hall. For many students it was their first time skating, so learning how to fall on skates was lesson # 1 ! There was one big surprise: Eyad, from Saudi Arabia, actually has ice skating as a hobby! There are no ice rinks in his city, so he often travels to Dubai to enjoy his favourite sport.

Ice skating, skiing, snowboarding and hiking are just some of the many wonderful ways to enjoy the great outdoors in Toronto. For those who prefer to stay indoors, bowling, movies and theatre are some of the activities that keep KIOSK students happy after school. January 22 is the beginning of the Lunar New Year. KIOSK will have a big party for all students to help celebrate the new year with our Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese students. Come join us for the party on January 21!

High School students at KIOSK started their new term this past Monday. After a nice Christmas Holiday, everyone is feeling great about their new Grade 12 classes: Data Management, Accounting, Calculus, Business and TOEFL. Good luck to all students. We hope you all get into university next September.
