CanadaWide December, 2005 Our Winter Special - One Week FREE!

Canadian College of Business and Language - Victoria, BC

Cash Prizes
December saw lots of celebrations at Canadian College. Our Acting Program had its first Showcase of the school year. Misae, from Japan, who moved from our ESL program into our Acting Diploma program, did a wonderful job, as did all the other actors. Our Film students made their first pitch, where Tetsuya and Jason were awarded cash prizes and the opportunity to shoot their scripts. Other celebrations occurred during our Free Friday Activities that included beer and nachos at a local pub, Christmas at Craigdarroch Castle, and the Festival of Trees at the Empress Hotel.

New Programs
In the New Year, Canadian College will welcome into our High School Bridge Program and English Study Tour Programs teens from Korea, Mexico, Japan, and Thailand. Our Internship Program begins in February for adult ESL students. Canadian College will also be taking groups of students skiing and snowboarding to Mt. Washington, and on sightseeing tours of Vancouver. Contact admissions@canadiancollege.ca for complete information on 2005 programs and events. Best wishes to everyone for happiness, health, and prosperity in the New Year!

Educere International College - Calgary, Alberta
Educere International College Experiences Warmest November on Record!
Calgary has been experiencing an incredible December with Victoria-like climate in the Foothills of the Rockies. Everyday temperatures are at +10 and higher with sunny days and warm dry Chinook winds. Our Swiss students are reminded of the Foehn from the Alps and great days of skiing with warm temperatures. Our activities this month included. Holiday cheer at Heritage Park with a sleigh ride and winter treats, Dim Sum for our International Visitors from China and Theatre for our friend who prefer the arts.

This month we have had several holiday celebrations including Chanukah and Christmas while enjoying the skills of International Curling with resident Jr. Canadian champion LaDawn Funk. In January we will welcome students from Dresden Germany, Poland and China who will be combining Language + Skiing in Banff and Lake Louise. We will also be having a Dragon Festival to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Your friends at staff at EIC wish you the best of the holiday season.

KIOSK International - Toronto, Ontario
The annual Christmas tree decorating party was a great success. Each class prepared a special dish for the Christmas Party and students brought in their favourite music - foods and sounds from all over the world! The multicultural environment at KIOSK is precisely what makes Toronto such a great city. Come and join in the new year. KIOSK wishes all of its students, friends and partners a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The first snow has fallen and for many students it was the first time in their lives that they saw snow! Taso, Activity Leader, has a lot of exciting winter activities lined up for the students at KIOSK. Ice skating at Toronto's famous City Hall and weekly ski trips will keep everyone happy and busy after a hard day of classes! And speaking of classes, did you know that the new TOEFL test will be much more demanding but much more useful for students going to College or University in Canada. Are you prepared? If not, then KIOSK's expert TOEFL master, Donald, is waiting for you in his class!

Interlangues Language School - Ottawa, Ontario
Happy Holidays! Interlangues would like to extend its best wishes to all students and staff of the Canada Wide English Network. It’s been a great year and we hope that the next one is as well. We celebrated this year with an end of the year party. We had a secret Santa exchange; the students drew names and bought gifts for each other – without revealing themselves until the gifts were opened. We also decorated gingerbread houses, a traditional Christmas activity for many Canadian families at Christmas. Another activity this month was the tree lighting ceremony on Parliament Hill – it was cold, but we kept warm with hot chocolate and Beavertails®!

This year, as requested by students, we are open throughout the holidays. These two weeks will be conversation oriented, since some students have chosen to take the two weeks off to go travelling. Every year we offer the choice to study through the holidays to our students. It is a good opportunity for the students to get together and study in a less formal, conversation-based atmosphere. We look forward to meeting our many new students in the New Year, and to telling you about the wonderful new programs that we have planned!

Study Abroad Canada - Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Santa is coming and students in our Christmas program are here. We have some snow now, but need is some more to do some of the exciting Christmas activities like skiing, or tubing, sleigh rides and snowshoeing. Green Gables House in Cavendish is decorated for Christmas. We think that Christmas time is the best time to visit Green Gables House – you get to see it a unique time of year, decorated for Christmas – and usually, we are the only ones there so we can have a private tour and take as long as we like. As part of our program we also cut two Christmas trees and decorated them and had a lobster feast. Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!

A fabulous follow-up to our Christmas program is our Valentine’s day adventure. Join us for an extra-special one or two-week Valentine’s study tour program. Enjoy a romantic sleigh ride! Make some Valentine’s ceramics! Walk down Lover’s Lane at Green Gables House! Make some chocolates! Check out program details at www.eccl.ca or email Paula Clark at pclark@eccl.ca

Canadian as a Second Language Institute - Vancouver, British Columbia
Here comes Santa Claus!!!!
CSLI’s busy Christmas season continued this month as students and staff enjoyed many traditional holiday activities. With the primary focus of this holiday season being on GIVING, many students and staff went to the Pan Pacific Hotel for a charity breakfast. Bringing a toy for a child in need, we were treated to a delicious breakfast courtesy of the hotel’s top chefs.. Also, we all went to the beautifully decorated Urban Fare market to sing Christmas Carols, a traditional seasonal activity. We had a waffle breakfast for those who brought something for the food bank, a charity that collects food for poor people. Christmas giving came early this year!

Ho Ho Ho……
Our last graduation party of the year was our big Christmas party. After the incredible transformation of our lounge into an elegant dining room, we held our graduation ceremony before the teachers served students a delicious traditional Canadian Christmas meal of turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, and salad. Teachers presented graduation certificates to their departing students before giving prizes to the best students in each class. A special guest dressed all in red came to visit us with a big gift bag full of presents and gave each student a surprise. The CSLI choir sang, and the famous CSLI actors gave us a great performance. The coveted Student of the Month Award for December 2005 went to Burcu Agirman from Turkey, a very helpful and enthusiastic student, who gets a one-month full-time scholarship at CSLI. Congratulations!
