Study
Abroad Canada - Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Spring has finally arrived on Prince Edward
Island, and everyone is enjoying the new warmer weather.
Study
Abroad Canada is pleased to announce that its new brochure is now available
for download or by mail distribution. This update well represents the
“family” feeling that students have when they study with us on Prince
Edward Island. The warm colours and photos reflect the friendly atmosphere
of our school, city and province. Of course, to know what it is really
like, you need to come to Charlottetown.
In
other exciting news, Beth Janzen, one of Study Abroad Canada’s teachers,
has recently had book of poetry published. We are very proud of Beth
and her accomplishment. The book, Night Vanishes, is available in book
stores on Prince Edward Island. Well done, Beth!
This month’s Friday
activities are: touring Green Gables, Volleyball, Ceramics Class, and
our second annual fishing tournament. Last year’s fishing tournament
was a huge success with the winning fish weighing in at almost 3 kg.

Spring in Montreal...
The month of March started off remarkably mild - in fact, last
month's heaps of snow were reduced to puddles with all the sunshine
we had. But as I write this, there is more snow falling...and just when
we thought winter was over!
The 180th consecutive edition of Montreal's
St-Patrick's Day parade was, as always, an event for ALL Montrealers
- everyone is Irish on St Patrick's day, after all! Canada's Prime Minister,
the Honourable Paul Martin, walked the
parade route alongside the floats, musicians, dancers and dignitaries.
Cabane à sucre / Visit
to the Sugar Shack
Spring
would just not be spring without a visit to one of Quebec's sugar shacks
or cabane à sucre. And boy-o-boy, did we eat a lot! After such a meal,
we needed some fresh air and a bit of exercise. Luckily we were right
next to Mont-St-Gregoire, so up to the top (or near the top anyway)
we scrambled, amidst a mini-snowstorm. Getting down the mountain was
more of a challenge, and many of us literally slid all the way down!
I'm sure many of us had dreams filled with all things maple...

Interlangues
Language Centre - Ottawa, Ontario
March at Interlangues
This
month we visited a traditional Canadian "Cabane à sucre" or "sugar shack"
as it is called in English. For many of our students, this was the quintessential
Canadian experience. Maple syrup is one of Canada's most famous symbols,
so our students were surprised to hear that maple trees only grow in
the eastern part of Canada. We had a horse-drawn wagon ride around the
farm to see where they collect the sap (maple syrup comes from this
sap), a tour of the area where they actually make the syrup and finally
a meal of homemade pancakes and beans with maple syrup.
We kicked off our teen
program this month. Every year we welcome teens from all over the world
- including Canada - to our school to study English. Some of these students
are also preparing to enter Canadian high schools. Interlangues works
closely with staff at local schools to help place international students
in the public or private school system. For more information on how
this program works contact our ESL department.

Groups Here, Groups
There, Groups Everywhere
Canadian
College played host to many groups this spring, most of them being from
Mexico and Japan, joining other students from Brazil, Taiwan, Korea,
Switzerland, Hungary, Thailand, and Germany. Great fun was had by all,
especially at our famous "group graduation karaoke parties".

The
Land of Hockey
What better way to enjoy and experience Canada than to learn the art
of hockey. Students enjoyed playing "street hockey" outside of Canadian
College in our Bastion Square courtyard, next to the Inner Harbour.
It was mostly the guys versus the girls. Guess who won? Write us at

to find out. We will send you a reply.
